Privacy Policy
Northwoods Ventures LLC · Effective 2026-09-24 · Updated 2026-09-29 · Version 2026-09-24
This policy explains what DamageScore, a service of Northwoods Ventures LLC, collects when you send us a photo or use our website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
- Your photo. The image you text, email, or upload. We strip the embedded metadata, including GPS location, camera details, and timestamps, before we store it. We keep only the cleaned image and a thumbnail.
- Contact details. The mobile number you texted from or chose to give us, the email address you wrote from or asked us to send your results to, and, if you ask for quotes, your name and any email you add.
- Location. The zip code you give us, or that you text to us. We use it to find your town and county and to adjust cost ranges. We never derive your location from your phone number beyond a rough guess, and never from photo metadata.
- Messages. The text of messages you send us and we send you, including any description you add to a photo.
- Results. The score, explanation, cost range, and flags our system generates about your photo.
- Technical data. IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and cookie identifiers, collected through our web server and the cookies described in section 8. We record the IP address and browser of the device used to accept our terms, as evidence of consent, and keep a scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address to limit how many uploads one connection can make.
2. How we use it
- To analyze your photo and produce your Damage Score, cost range, and next step.
- To send you your results, follow-up messages about your photo, and, with your consent, marketing messages such as home maintenance tips and severe weather alerts for your area.
- To pass your request to a contractor network or local pro when you ask for quotes.
- To publish photos and scores on our website and social media, under the license in our Terms, never with your name or contact details, and never when a photo shows people, faces, house numbers, or plates.
- To keep records of consent, to prevent abuse, to measure and improve the service, and to comply with law.
3. Automated analysis
Your photo and zip code are analyzed by an artificial-intelligence model provided by Anthropic. The photo is sent to Anthropic for that analysis and is not used by Anthropic to train its models. Scores are calibrated automatically; no person reviews them unless you contact us or a photo is flagged.
4. Who we share it with
- Contractor networks and pros, only when you ask. When you request quotes we send your name, phone number, email (if given), zip code, and the type of work to the network or business that will contact you. They may pay us for that request. Their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies.
- Service providers that run the service on our behalf: Supabase (database and photo storage), Vercel (hosting and website analytics), Anthropic (photo analysis), Twilio (text messaging), Postmark (email), Klaviyo (message scheduling), Cloudflare (bot protection on our forms), Sentry (error monitoring), and Google Analytics (website analytics). They may process your data only to provide their service to us.
- Advertising partners. Google, which shows ads on our site through Google AdSense and uses cookies to serve them, as described in section 8.
- Sponsors. If you call a sponsored public adjuster or pro through a number on our site, the call is connected to them and we record that a call happened and its length. We do not share your photo or score with sponsors.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of anyone.
- Business transfers. If Northwoods Ventures LLC is acquired or merges, your information may transfer to the successor under this policy.
5. Text messaging and your mobile number
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information won't be shared with any third parties.
If you text a photo to 888-311-5119, we text you back about that photo and your score. If you ask us to text you your results link, we send that one message. Neither signs you up for marketing texts. We send tips and alerts by text only if you check the optional "also text me" box on your results page, which is never pre-checked and isn't required to get your score. Reply STOP at any time to stop, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. Full program terms are in our Terms.
If you ask for quotes, the name, phone number, and email you enter on the quote form go to a contractor network so local pros can contact you, as described above. Your text message opt-in and consent are never part of what we share.
6. How long we keep it
- Photos and results: for as long as the score is live. If you withdraw a photo, we remove it from our site right away and delete our copies 30 days later.
- Messages: 12 months.
- Consent records: for as long as we need them to show that you agreed, and as the law requires.
- Contact details: until you ask us to delete them, subject to legal record-keeping.
7. Your choices and rights
- Stop texts: reply STOP. Stop emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Withdraw a photo from public use: reply WITHDRAW, or use the withdraw link on your results page.
- Access, correct, or delete your information: email support@damagescore.com from the address or with the number you used, and we will respond within 45 days. Residents of states with consumer privacy laws, including Connecticut, California, Colorado, and Virginia, may exercise their rights under those laws the same way. We do not sell personal information. In U.S. states whose privacy laws give you the right to opt out of targeted advertising, we have set Google to show only non-personalized ads, as described in section 8. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
- Cookies and personalized ads: your browser can block or delete cookies, and you can turn off personalized ads at Google Ads Settings (section 8). The service works without them.
8. Cookies and advertising
We and our partners use cookies and similar tools on our site. They fall into four groups:
- Needed to run the site. Protect our forms from bots (Cloudflare Turnstile).
- Analytics. Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics, described below. Vercel Web Analytics sets no cookies.
- Advertising. Google AdSense, described below.
- Shopping links. Some pages link to products on Amazon. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases, and Amazon may set cookies when you follow a link so the purchase is credited to us. What happens on Amazon is covered by Amazon’s privacy notice.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works.
Advertising. We show ads from Google AdSense on some pages. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of some other vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
U.S. state privacy laws. For visitors in U.S. states whose privacy laws give a right to opt out of targeted advertising, including Connecticut and California, we have turned on Google’s restricted data processing, so the ads you see here are not personalized. Non-personalized ads can still use cookies to limit how often you see an ad, to count ad views, and to prevent fraud.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use our site, so we can improve it. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies and collects your IP address, device and browser type, pages you visit, how you arrived, and your approximate location. Google processes this data for us. We don’t send Google your name, phone number, email address, or photos. To learn how Google uses this data, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services. To opt out, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Vercel Web Analytics. We also count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, from our hosting provider. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t store your IP address. It tells visits apart with a code made from each request, which is discarded after 24 hours, and gives us only totals: pages viewed, the site that referred you, device, operating system and browser type, and approximate location. Results pages are recorded without their score number. See Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy page.
9. Security
Photos are kept in private storage, not a public folder, and our site shows each one only on its results page unless we publish it under the license in our Terms. Access to our database requires server-side credentials that are never sent to browsers. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee against every breach.
10. Children
DamageScore is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date and version appear at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information you already gave us, we will notify you by text or email before it takes effect.
