About DamageScore
DamageScore answers the first question a homeowner has after spotting damage: how bad is this, and what does a repair like it usually cost?
You send one photo of what's wrong: a roof, a gutter, siding, a leak, a deck, an outlet. You get back a Damage Score from 0 to 100, a plain-English explanation, a typical repair cost range for your area, and a suggested next step. It's free, and it takes about a minute.
How a score is made
- An AI model, Anthropic's Claude, looks at the photo and scores only what it can see, against a written rubric. When a photo can't support a judgment, it says so and asks for a better one.
- Cost ranges come from our national cost table, compiled from published 2025–2026 home repair cost guides, then adjusted for your state or metro area using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics construction wages. You can see the table on each repair page, such as roofing.
- Our storm history pages summarize the National Weather Service's official storm records. About our storm data.
What we promise
- A score is an estimate from a photo, not an inspection, and every result says so. Always have a licensed professional inspect damage before making repair, safety, or insurance decisions.
- We never tell anyone to file an insurance claim.
- Money never changes a score. No advertiser, sponsor, or partner can buy a higher or lower one.
- We strip location data from every photo and never sell your number. If we use a photo, it's never with your name or contact details. Details are in our Terms and Privacy Policy.
How we make money
Some pages carry ads and Amazon links, and we earn a commission on qualifying purchases. When you ask for quotes, the contractor network that receives your request may pay us, and some listings are sponsored and marked as such. None of it changes a score.
